View of the Krenides river at a site west of the forum of Philippi where tradition has it that Paul met with women who had assembled there for prayer on the Sabbath (Acts 16:13). Since a synagogue is not mentioned in Acts, it may be that the Jewish community in Philippi (a Roman Colony) was very small.
From this group, Lydia, a seller of purple fabrics from Thyatira (in Asia/Turkey), was converted (Acts 16:14–15). Tradition has it that this is the site of Lydia’s baptism.
