Cenchreae was Corinth's port on the Saronic Gulf — on the Aegean Sea located about 6.5 mi. [9 km.] east of Corinth. Paul set sail for Syria from here at the end of his second missionary journey after his 18 month stay at Corinth (Acts 18:18). Later Paul commends Phoebe, a deaconess of the church at Cenchreae, to the church at Rome (Romans 16:1–2).
