Cavea

Image with a view looking from the stage area across the orchestra towards the cavea of the Theater at Epidaurus. The lower portion of the theater was divided into 12 wedges (cunei) by 13 staircases.

A diazoma (belt) separated the upper from the lower portion.  The upper portion had twenty-three staircases!  Note the distribution of students throughout the cavea.
