Cavea West

View looking west at the cavea, the orchestra area, the stage and the west parodos of the Theater at Epidaurus. 

Notice how the cavea extends more than 180 degrees.  This “larger than a semi-circle” design is characteristic of Greek, rather than Roman, theaters.  Compare the theater at Priene.

To the right of center, notice the double doorway parodos through while people would enter the theater.  Also noticeable in the cavea is the diazoma (belt) that separates the upper from the lower seating area.
