A view looking east at a portion of the Nature Reserve at the Nahal David. In the upper half of the photograph, the Salt/Dead Sea and then the "mountains" of Transjordan are visible—yes, it was a clear day!
There are several powerful springs in the area. Today the Kibbutz En Gedi controls the springs and the Nature Reserve receives only a portion of the natural water supply. In addition, the Nature Authority controls where and when the water will be distributed within the nature reserve. Thus, although this was a lush oasis in antiquity today the distribution of the vegetation is controlled.
