A view looking west at a portion of the Nature Reserve at the Nahal David.
There are several powerful springs in the area. Today the Kibbutz En Gedi controls the springs and the Nature Reserve receives only a portion of the natural water supply—the remainder is used for agricultural purposes. In addition, the Nature Authority controls where and when the water will be distributed within the nature reserve. Thus, although this was a lush oasis in antiquity today the distribution of the vegetation is controlled.
