View looking east at the gable of the Church of Saint Catherine in Bethlehem. The figure hovering over the entrance is the Blessed Virgin Mary and the man with a codex in his hand and his foot on a skull is Saint Jerome, who translated the Bible from Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek into Latin the Vulgate). I believe that the skull is there to remind him, and us, of our mortality.
The grey stones in the upper right is an apse of the Basilica of the Nativity.
