View looking northwest from the top of the Herodium down at the pool area. The columns surrounding give an impression of what it might have looked like in the days of Herod.
The pool itself has a round base of a pavilion in the center. Probably gardens surrounded the pool itself. Water for the pool was brought from the springs at Artas 3.5 mi. [5.5 km.] to the west. From here, the water was actually conveyed on to Jerusalem.
