Lower Excavation

View looking south over the southern portion of the excavated area.  Behind the three people in the image the slope of the Herodium rises dramatically.

The opening in the lower left quadrant of the image goes into a huge cistern—one of many found at the Herodium.  The “tomb” was discovered as this cistern was being investigated.

Note the architectural fragment located in the lower right portion of the image.
