Baptismal Sites

View looking east from the west side of the Jordan.  In the distance is the Greek Orthodox Church on the east (Jordanian) bank of the Jordan River.  The river "flows" from left (north) to right (south).

In the foreground is a portion of the newly constructed Israeli center that commemorates John baptizing in this area (Matt 3:1-17; Mark 1:2-11; Luke 3:1-22; and John 1:6-34).   John 1:28 in the KJV reads "Betharaba beyond Jordan" while the NIV more correctly reads "Bethany on the other side of the Jordan."
