View of the western gate of Kh. Qeiyafa looking west.
According to the excavator that gate dates to the time of King David (ca. 1010–970 BCE). It has four chambers—two on each side. Note the passageway leading out of the city. On the right side of the exit note the line of stones. They cover a drain that leads out of the city.
In the distance, the partially "barren" hill is Azekah and to the right (north) of that the Elah Valley flows away (west) towards the Mediterranean.
The western gate is located in "Area B."
