Frescos

Frescos

View of the 5.6 ft. [1.7 m.] high wall that outlined the lower portion of the circus on its east side. This wall was covered with frescos of plants and animals and had several layers.

Visible in this image are some of the floral decorations as well as their framing. There are also images of animals and gladiators, but I have not been able to get a good picture of them.

The lower row of seats is visible above the frescoed wall and the "floor" of the circus below it. When the circus was used for gladiator and animal fights, this wall must have provided some protection to the spectators. For a view of the eastern seating Click Here.
