View of the spring (one of the most powerful in Israel) at Aphek. This is the headwaters of the Yarkon River.
The Yarkon in ancient times was an important barrier to north–south travel that typically was diverted to Aphek to avoid the Yarkon.
The Yarkon River divides the Philistine Plain to the south and the Sharon Plain to the north.
Today, the waters of the spring are tapped into the National Water Carrier System of Israel.
