Temple of Isis Rear

 A view looking at the western (back) wall of the Temple of Isis.  Note the copy of the statue of Dionysis that was found here.  The bricks of the temple were covered with plaster that was "carved" to look like masonry.  On the right, the staircase leads up to the portico of the temple.

Note the columns that outline the peristyle that surrounded the temple.

The current structures were built after the earthquake of A.D. 62 and thus were only 17 years old when Pompeii was buried by the eruption of Vesuvius in A.D. 79. The well-preserved temple was one of the first discoveries at Pompeii in 1764!
