The table in front of the man praying holds prayer books.
To his left a good example of a carved Herodian stone is visible. Note the smooth, narrow margin around the edges of the stone, and the very smooth "boss" on the stone. This type of carving ("masonry") is found in many buildings and monuments built by King Herod.
