A view looking south into the building that the excavators suggest might be a synagogue. It dates to the 11th century CE. It is entered from the north and faces south—towards Jerusalem. Note the staircase on the left (east) side of the image. At the far end of the building is a niche that may have served as the "ark" where the Torah scrolls were kept.
