Altar

View looking north at a huge ashlar altar that was found on the lower portion of Hazor. This stone originally may have been used in a Middle Bronze Age II building, but in its final usage it functioned as an altar (or place of slaughtering animals) in a Late Bronze Age temple.

On the top of the altar are depressions for slaughtering and the draining of blood.

Snow-covered Mt. Hermon is visible above the head of the woman in the image. The Huleh Valley is the area between the altar and the hills that rise up towards Mt. Hermon. The hills on the right (east) side of the image are the slopes of the Golan Heights on the east side of the Huleh Valley.
