View looking west at the entrance to an MB III/LB I (ca. 1650–1400 B.C.) cistern. The woman is standing at the entrance to a stepped passage that slopes down to where the water was collected. The passageway is corbel vaulted, like the cistern — from approximately the same period — at Mycenae in Greece!
The entrance to the cistern is in area "A" and is located a bit south-southwest of the later Solomonic Gate.
Compare the cistern at Mycenae to this one.
