View of one of the capitals that are part of the reconstruction of the monumental gate that was part of the palace/fortress located on the western part of the citadel of Hazor—probably built during the days of the Israelite ruler Ahab (874–853 BC). The capitals were found in "Area B" and are now on display in the Israel Museum in Jerusalem.
Most of the structures in this area are from the time of Solomon and his successors. The fortress in this area was finally destroyed by the Assyrian Tiglath–pileser III in 733 B.C.
