View of the model of the six–chamber gate that was discovered at Megiddo. The initial excavators dated it to the days of King Solomon but today its dating is disputed.
On this image, please notice how the "offset inset" wall joins the gate in the model. Actually, it is not certain that this wall was attached to this gate! Yigael Yadin believed that a "casemate" wall was attached to the gate—but this also is hotly disputed! The problem is that the University of Chicago excavated away the evidence regarding the join of the gate with its associated wall!$#@! Thus, no one will ever be able to go back and re-excavate the spot—since it is gone.
In general, I follow the traditional "Solomon" interpretation of the gate.
