Theater

Theater

View looking west at across the cavea of the 4,000 seat theater at Sepphoris.  The semi-circular cavea seating area is visible on the left (south) side of the image — on the right (north) is where the no-longer-in-existence stage area was located.

The date of the theater is in dispute, but it seems that it was constructed in the late first century A.D. (it was not in existence in Jesus’ day).  It was destroyed sometime during the Byzantine Period (A.D. 315–640).
