View looking east at the main hall of the synagogue. The hall is divided into two unequal parts. The main section, that dominates the center of the image, was carpeted with a beautiful mosaic floor that is divided into seven panels.
A person would enter the synagogue from approximately the far end and would first encounter two panels that depicted events associated with the life of Abraham and Sarah. The third panel, in the center of the image, is that of a zodiac that surrounds an image of the sun disk "riding" on a chariot that is drawn by four horses. Three of the four-panel beyond that depict objects associated with the Tabernacle and/or Temple and then finally a dedicatory inscription in the seventh panel
In the foreground there was probably a raised platform, bema, where an "ark" that contained the Torah scrolls was located.
On the left side of the image was a narrow aisle with a mosaic floor consisting of geometric patterns and a few dedicatory inscriptions.
