View looking southwest at the "first-century" synagogue that was discovered at Magdala. The entrance was from the west, just above the center of the picture.
Note the low benches around the synagogue, the frescoed columns, and the mosaic floor (in the foreground of the image).
The unique stone box is thought by some to be a "table" on top of which the Torah scroll was placed for reading. (The box in the image is a replica—click here for a view of the original)
