View of the well that is located at the city gate of Beersheba, on the east side of the tel. The well, now dry and partially reconstructed, is 130 ft. [40 m.] deep.
The "well" itself is a bit unusual for it is not located down in the wadi bed where one would more likely find water. Aharoni suggested some religious connections with this well, but it seems more likely to this writer that the drainage system of the city emptied into this structure for it is situated at the outer gate close to where the drainage system would exit the city.
For drinking water, it is more probable that the other water system at Beersheba was used.
