View of the trench that Aharoni dug in order to survey the strata represented at Tel Sheva prior to major excavation. Yohanan Aharoni, and his successors, excavated here from 1969 to 1976. Note in the upper left the "stone mantle" that was used to stabilize the sloping surface in antiquity.

On the right side of the trench, clearly outlined in its side (baulk), is a white area of plaster and stone.
