View of the interior of the 4,000 seat theater at Ostia.  The cavea was reconstructed in A.D. 1927.  Note the lower three wide "platforms."  The elite of the city sat here on luxury furniture (chairs).

The "orchestra area" is visible in the lower right of the image.  Here parts of the performance occurred.
