This huge statue of Hermes was found in the Theater of Perge.
Hermes is standing on his right leg and flexing his left. His garment is draped over his left arm and in the same arm, he carries his caduceus. On his head is a "wing." At his foot is a ram looking up at him.
Hermes was considered to be the herald of the gods. He was the protector of travelers, thieves, merchants, and shepherds. He transported the dead to the underworld. Typically he was depicted with wings on his head and feet and carried a "staff" called a caduceus.
