Aqueduct 2

View looking northwest at a portion of the well–preserved aqueduct as it passes through a low area.  This low portion of the "U-shaped" siphon is 0.6 mi. [0.9 km.] long and 18 ft. [5.5 m.] wide.  Because of its significant width, some have suggested that it served as a roadway over this marshy area.  It is preserved to a height of 50 ft. [15 m.].

The canal in the picture, which flows from right to left, is not associated with the aqueduct, but in Roman times, the aqueduct spanned this swampy area.
