Lower Agora 2

View looking north at the Lower Agora—#3 on the Plan of the Lower City.

In the left-center is a paved plaza and above it (north) are the remains of the Nymphaeum of the Lower Agora—#5 on the plan.  Above the Nymphaeum is a structure—portions of which are covered with wood.  This is what I have called the "Middle Nymphaeum.?

Note the pedestals upon which honorific statues of prominent citizens were placed.

In the upper right, a staircase connects the Upper City with the Lower City.

This area evidently dates to the reign of the Roman Emperor Septimius Severus (r. A.D. 193–211).
