View of the excavations (October 2023) near the "Golden Mile" in the area of the Hagia Sophia and Hippodrome in the area of Sultanahmet in Istanbul.
In the left side of the image, the top of a cistern is visible—partially broken through at the top. This area is just south of the famous Basilica Cistern.
According to the archaeologist, these structures—including buildings and waterworks—date to the Late Roman/Early Byzantine Periods.
