Magnesian Gate

View looking south at the Magnesian Gate that is located just south of the East Gymnasium on the east side of Ephesus.  This gate led to Ephesus’ sister city of Magnesia on the Maeander [River] about 14 mi. [22 km.] east of Ephesus.   This version of it was constructed during the reign of the Roman Emperor Vespasian (A.D. 69–79).

Travelers and caravans coming from the east would enter Ephesus, their terminal point, via this gate.
