View of the Sacred Way looking north. This roadway was used for sacred processions that began at the sanctuary of Apollo Delphinios in Miletus, 11 mi. [18 km.] to the north. It was lined with statues of priests and priestesses. The explorer Newton took these statues to the British Museum in the 19th century. Note the stone paving, the curbing, and the structures located on both sides of the road. In the area was a large bathhouse.
