Tomb with Menorah

View of one of the over 1,200 tombs in the "necropolis" ("city of the dead") at Hierapolis.

This tomb has two sarcophagi on its roof as well as interior burial spaces.  This tomb, "Tomb 148B," is one of the few that has a menorah inscribed on it.  The (faint) menorah is inscribed on the wall just to the left of the lintel of the doorway.  Dr. Mark Wilson says that this tomb "belonged to a Jew named Marcus Aurelius Philoumeno Streneion" and dates to the second century AD.
