Dionysus Temple

View looking down on the Temple of Dionysus. It was built during the second century B.C. and continued to be used into the Late Roman Period. The theater is located just above (south) and slightly to the left of this image. The temple faced south — note the remains of columns on the temple porch. Two columns are lying on the ground in the interior of the temple. In front of the temple (slightly above and left of center) note the foundations of the rectangular altar. The promenade (stoa) leads south, out of the top of the image.

Dionysus was the god of entertainment and often his temple was located close to a theater, and many theaters were decorated with reliefs depicting his life (see for example the theater at Aspendos and/or type "Dionysus" into the Search Window and click)
