View looking north at the "Doric Temple" (also called "Zeus Temple"). The picture was taken from the courtyard of the Temple and the entrance is visible in the center foreground. To the left and right of the entrance, are "arms" that project out from the walls (called antae).
The Temple is composed of limestone that has turned grey over the centuries because of being exposed to the elements. It was probably constructed during the rule of the Roman Emperor Augustus (r. 27 B.C. - A.D. 14).
To the right of the temple, the "white" Heroon is partially visible.
