View looking southeast at the west end of the Roman Forum. Many important monuments are visible in this image.
On the left (north) side of the image is the Arch of Septimius Severus, the Column of Phocas, and the low wall is the Rostra. On the right side of the image are the 8 columns of the Temple of Saturn, and 3 from the Temple of Vespasian and Titus. Between them the ancient road, Clivus Capitolinus leads from the Forum to the Capitoline Hill.
In the distance, the hill with the trees is the Palatine Hill where the Roman Emperors built their palaces. At the foot of it is the Basilica of Julia.
