View of the "altar" in the meager remnants of the Temple of Julius Caesar. The flowers on it are placed in honor of Caesar. In the upper left is the curved wall (apse) of the back of the temple.
This temple was built to honor Julius Caesar, who was murdered on March 15, B.C. 44—the "Ides of March." It was here where he was cremated and where his ashes were interred and where Mark Antony read out his will.
After the Battle of Actium in 31 B.C. his adopted son Octavian fixed the rams (rostra) of defeated ships to the structure.
