Nymphaeum & Street

Nymphaeum & Street

View looking northwest down at the remnants of a large Nymphaeum that is located on the north slope of the acropolis of Gadara.  In the center left of the image are remnants of the main street of Gadara.  The steps on the far left (south) portion of the image lead up to the plaza where a forum and later a church were located.

The nymphaeum is on the center right (north) portion of the image.  A nymphaeum is a large public fountain that was often richly decorated with statues of prominent persons and deities.
