View looking west from the courtyard at the entrance to the Late Bronze Age palace or temple on the summit of the citadel of Hazor.  Note the basalt steps that lead into the structure.  Two massive basalt column bases now support truncated wooden columns.  Note also the basalt slabs on both sides of the stairs.

The design of this palace is very similar to the one found at Alalakh 215 miles [345 km.] north in Turkey.
