JQ Ashlar Construction

View looking south across an excavated portion of the Jewish Quarter on the west side of the citadel.  Note the well-carved Ashlar Stones with smooth margins and relatively smoothed bosses.

Jewish Quarter: During the first century BC residential structures were built in the area.  Many, with rebuilds and additions, continued in existence through the Talmudic (Byzantine) Era.

Cisterns and other underground spaces were discovered in this area.  The presence of ritual baths and stone vessels and dishes indicate that this was a Jewish area during these periods—thus the name "Jewish Quarter."
