Display and Ancient Wall

A view of the display in the southern chamber in the museum at Caesarea Maritima.  The simple arrangement runs from left to right in chronological order, displaying one representative object from each period—from Herodian to Crusader.

Note the wall behind the display—it is the original wall of this storage chamber which dates to the Herodian Period.  Note too, the bosses and the margins that are typical of Herodian Masonry.  The type of stone seems to be predominantly Kurkar.   On the upper right portion of the image, the holes in the wall are where timbers were inserted that in turn supported the upper portion of the chamber.
