View of Jericho

View from the northwest looking southeast.  The long brown mound of dirt - in the center of the photo - stretching from right to left is Tell es-Sultan (Old Testament Jericho). Note its position in the green oasis.

One of the powerful springs that feed the oasis of Jericho is located just on the opposite (east) side of the mound. The tell is about 10 acres in size - which implies about 1,500 people could live within its walls.

The mud brick buildings in the foreground are remnants of a Palestinian Refuge camp - now destroyed.

On the horizon the pink Mountains of Moab in Jordan are visible, and just below them is the Dead Sea.
