Bath Mosaic

Bath Mosaic

View looking down at a Herodian mosaic that is located in the bathroom of the Western Palace.  Notice the red border, the single rolling-wave design, and the red "heart pattern" in the center of the mosaic.

The stair in the upper right leads down to a (ritual?) bath.  To the left of the mosaic, the stones of a small Zealot (Sicarii) installation are visible.  Notice the contrast between the luxury of Herod the great (r. 37–4 BC) and the simple intrusive (desperate) structure of the Zealots (AD 67-73) who had different priorities!
