View looking northwest at the pavement to the east of the Cotton Merchants' Gate ( Bab al–Qattanin)—one of the six gates on the western side of the Haram esh–Sharif (Temple Mount).
Leen Ritmeyer believes that the large stones visible in this picture (not the modern small ones in the lower right) may in fact be from the days' of Herod the Great (= late Second Temple Period). The would have been located just east of the west portico of the Temple Mount Platform.
