Damascus Gate (Roman)

Damascus Gate (Roman)

View looking down on an arched entrance to the city of Jerusalem—from Roman Times.  The exact date of the building of the gate is not known.  Some have suggested that it is from the time of the Roman Emperor Hadrian (A.D. 117–138) while others argue that it is from the days of Herod Agrippa I (A.D. 40–44; see also Acts 12).

In all probability three arched–openings that stood here—the largest (no longer preserved) being in the middle and then that one was flanked on either side by smaller openings—this being the eastern most one.
