Zorah Ridge

Zorah Ridge

View from the top of Beth Shemesh looking northeast at the Sorek Valley and the ridge to the north of the valley.   This image was taken in the late spring when typically wheat is ready to be harvested.  Note the trees that cover the Eocene ridge to the north of the valley.

Note the four low rises on the ridge.  The one on the right (east) has a slight cut in which a few trees are visible (click on image to enlarge).  Near this right most rise is where ancient Zorah was located.

Samson's father, a Danite, was from Zorah (Judges 13:2).  It was in the Zorah area (Judges 13:24) that Samson operated and it was near Zorah that he was buried (Judges 16:31).  Today there is actually a cenotaph marking the "traditional" site of his grave there.
