Israelite/Persian Gate Interior

View looking east at the approach, from within the outer portion of the partially reconstructed Israelite gate at Lachish.   The "gap" in the wall (above center) is actually the opening of the gate from the Persian Period (586–332 B.C.).

The stone–lined trench is the drainage system of the city (flowing toward the viewer).
