Augustus Temple 3

Augustus Temple 3

View of the four column bases (three upside down) that are located at the top of the staircase of the Imperial Temple at Sebaste.

The imperial cult temple here at Sebaste was one of three that Herod the Great built.  Another  temple was built at Caesarea Maritima and the other one at/near Panias (later, Caesarea Philippi).  The staircase is actually from a rebuild of the original temple that took place during the days of Septimius Severus (ca. AD 200).
