View looking south down the 525 ft. length of the huge garden that is located on the east side of the Palace of Domitian. The area with the grass is where the garden was located. At the far end, during a much later period, a small amphitheater was added. The modern structures in the garden are part of a large "art" display on the Palatine Hill.
Note the paths around the edges of the garden are part of a portico—the columns supported the two-storied portico. The upper level of the portico, where the man in the white tee shirt is standing, was level with the rooms of the palace.
On the left (east) side of the garden is a projecting semi-circular exedra.
