Tombs Details

View of the façades of a number of the Lycian Tombs.  These were carved into solid rock, at great expense, and are thought to represent how Lycian houses, and maybe temples, appeared in the fourth century B.C.

Note the recessed panels, the gabled roofs, and the projecting “rods” that represent the ends of logs that supported the roofs of Lycian dwellings.

This necropolis (city of the dead) dates to the fourth century B.C.
